About Panacea Brewing Company
Panacea Brewing Company is a kombucha brewery in Wilmington, and this Judges Road space is home to its Tiny Tap and Taste. The motto on its website is short and sweet: peace, love, kombucha.
The story goes back to two kids at a small upstate New York high school. Artie started experimenting with fermentation in 1993, and Robin later began brewing her own ferments. Kombucha turned out to be the one ferment they could both agree on.
The couple launched Panacea in 2016 from the Burgaw Incubator Kitchen. They sold at farmers markets from a tap system Artie built on the side of their 1975 Volkswagen Westfalia, now called the Boochbus. The company says it keeps growing organically, one batch of booch at a time.
Panacea makes NC kombucha and hard kombucha, and businesses can carry it in cans or on draft. In 2025 it sold its restaurant to a new owner, which now runs as The Panacea Restaurant and still pours Panacea drinks.
