Breweries in California

California is one of the biggest brewery states in the country, and its breweries are spread remarkably wide. San Diego leads, yet it holds only about one in twelve of them. San Diego, San Francisco and Los Angeles together account for about a seventh, and the rest sit in hundreds of other cities and towns.

Almost every place listed is a brewery rather than a bar or a shop. Where size is known, most are small microbreweries, with brewpubs a clear second. Beer stores, beer gardens, beer halls and cider bars make up the small remainder.

Southern Pacific Brewing fills a warehouse food and drink hall in San Francisco's Mission District, and takes its name from the railroad. In Bakersfield, Temblor Brewing Company doubles as a live music venue, with a stage for touring bands and comedians. Tioga-Sequoia Brewing Company Beer Garden in Fresno sits in the brewery's old grain warehouse.
