Breweries in Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania is one of the biggest brewery states in the country, and its beer map covers hundreds of cities and towns. Philadelphia and Pittsburgh lead, yet together with Lancaster they hold only about a fifth of the places listed. Beer stores make up nearly two fifths of the list, and where size is known, microbreweries and brewpubs are close to even.

Penn Brewery in Pittsburgh's Deutschtown calls itself the city's oldest brewery and pours German-style lagers beside a cobblestone biergarten. In Philadelphia, Evil Genius Beer Company gives its beers pop culture names like Stacy's Mom and Purple Monkey Dishwasher.

Manayunk Brewing Company sits on the river, and its website says it has one of the largest outdoor decks in Philadelphia. Yards Brewing Company started in a garage-sized space in Manayunk and now pours at its taproom in Northern Liberties.
