Texas is one of the biggest brewery states in the country, and no single city runs the show. Austin, Houston and Dallas hold only about a fifth of the breweries between them. The rest are spread across hundreds of cities and towns, from El Paso and Lubbock to Corpus Christi and Laredo.
About two thirds of the places listed are breweries, and where size is known, most are small microbreweries. Brewpubs come next. Beer stores make up roughly a quarter of the list, with a few beer gardens mixed in.
Jester King Brewery makes farmhouse ales on a ranch outside Austin, where a herd of goats lives. In Houston, 8th Wonder Brewery takes its name from the Astrodome. Triple J Chophouse & Brew Co. pairs a steakhouse with what its website calls Lubbock's first brewpub.

Planning a brewery trip in Texas
Austin, Houston and Dallas make the easiest bases, because the most breweries cluster there. San Antonio and Fort Worth are good picks too, with plenty of stops of their own.
Beyond the big metros, breweries sit farther apart, so plan your stops before you set out. El Paso, Corpus Christi and Lubbock each have a small group of their own.
