About Outer Dunes Brewing Company
Outer Dunes Brewing Company is a brewery in the Porters Neck area of Wilmington, tucked into the oaks off Market Street. There is a huge outdoor beer garden, a rustic Tap House and a private indoor event venue. It grew from a 1 barrel pilot system into a 2,400 square foot production facility, finished in early 2023.
Phil and Ellie Mabe met at UNC in 2005 and started brewing on a five gallon setup in a tiny apartment. They spent over a decade working in breweries and event venues in Lake Tahoe. Then they moved home to Wilmington to open their own.
The 10 barrel brewhouse turns out lagers, IPAs and more. Intracoastal Blonde Ale, Lil' Fish IPA and Ocean Crest IPA are on the list. The website says Más Elote Mexican Lager won silver and Dune Bräu Festbier Lager won bronze at the 2026 NC Brewer's Cup.
Leashed pets are welcome anywhere they are comfortable. Kids can join their families in the beer garden until 6pm daily. Outside food is always welcome, and food trucks visit regularly.

Are children allowed at Outer Dunes?
Yes, in the beer garden until 6pm daily. Children are not allowed in the Tap House, Boat House or firepit area, and after 6pm guests must be 21 or older unless they are at a private event.
