Das Bevo is a biergarten, restaurant and event venue in the Bevo Mill on Gravois Avenue, a South City landmark known for its 60-foot tall windmill. The Busch family built it in 1917 as a rest stop between the Anheuser-Busch brewery and what is now Grant's Farm. Today it runs as a biergarten and event space after a full renovation by Pat and Carol Schuchard.
The Historic Bierhall fills the main level of the mill, with 19th-century murals in the Mill Room, a grand triple fireplace, copper chandeliers and hand-carved wooden characters. Below it, Das Bevo Underground was a speakeasy during Prohibition and now has a stage and a baby grand piano.
Outside, the Biergarten has a large bandstand, a retro firetruck, sculptures by local artists and an outdoor bar. Dinner runs Wednesday through Saturday, with brunch on Sunday.
The menu includes the Bevo Burger, a Loaded Wurst with a G&W bratwurst, and a German Board with sausages and a soft pretzel. The events calendar lists live music.
