About Lexington Brewing & Distilling Co

From Lexington Brewing & Distilling's own website and its Google listing, read October 4, 2026.

Lexington Brewing & Distilling Co is the home of Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale and Town Branch Bourbon, on Cross Street in Lexington. The first Lexington Brewing Co. ran from the 1890s until Prohibition. Pearse Lyons and his son Mark found the old brewery a shell in 1999, and Pearse revived it.

In 2006 the brewery filled fresh bourbon barrels with Kentucky Ale, and the result became Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale. Year-round beers now include a bourbon barrel imperial milk stout, a vanilla barrel cream ale and a tangerine cream ale. Seasonals rotate through the year.

Town Branch Distillery opened across the street in 2012, which the company says made it the first new distillery in Lexington in more than 100 years. It makes Town Branch Malt, Bourbon and Rye and is the 7th member of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. The company is still family owned, with Mark Lyons at the helm.

The campus tour covers both the brewery and the distillery, and families are welcome, with tastings for guests 21 and over. Barrel tastings and cocktail classes are offered too. It is one of the most reviewed beer spots in Lexington on this site.
