About Blindhouse Beer Company
Blindhouse Beer Company is a brewery and bière cafe on Salem Avenue in Roanoke. Its beers focus on mixed-culture fermentation in the Saison tradition. The website says the brewery uses native yeast and bacteria to capture the microflora of Southwest Virginia.
The name comes from a regional term for a windowless cottage or cabin. The website says these spaces were once used to sober up the drunk and disorderly. The beers show classic Belgian Saison esters, floral and fruity aromatics and delicate acidity.
Besides house beers, the taproom pours guest taps from brewers around the world. It also keeps a small list of wine and cider from low-intervention producers, plus rotating non-alcoholic drinks. Pizza from Black Box Pizza in Lynchburg is served in house, and outside food is welcome.
Well-behaved dogs are allowed in the tasting room, and there is a small sidewalk patio. Blindhouse hosts alternative music several times a month and takes private event bookings.
