Breweries in Virginia

Virginia is a big brewery state, and Richmond is its busiest beer city. Even so, Richmond holds only about one in twelve of the breweries. Charlottesville, Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Roanoke and Fredericksburg each have their own groups, and the rest are spread over more than a hundred towns.

Nearly every place listed is a brewery. Where size is known, microbreweries lead and brewpubs come next. A handful of beer stores, beer gardens and cider bars fill out the list.

The Answer Brewpub in Richmond pairs its taps with a Vietnamese fusion kitchen and a retro arcade. In Norfolk, Benchtop Brewing Company looks out over the Elizabeth River Trail. Big Ugly Brewing in Chesapeake is named after a co-founder's old panel truck.
