Southerleigh Fine Food & Brewery is a Texas restaurant with a brewery on the second story, set in San Antonio's Pearl district. It occupies the ground floor of the Pearl Brewhouse, a building constructed in 1894 that has been a San Antonio landmark ever since. Southerleigh built a custom brewhouse there, designed by Portland Kettle Works, and pours 15 different beers on tap.
Chef Jeff Balfour built the menu around the coastal food of his Galveston upbringing, paired with southern comfort cooking. The kitchen turns out gumbo with tasso, alligator and crawfish, cracker-crusted redfish, and a pressure-fried half chicken. Deviled eggs, biscuits and a crab mac and cheese round out the table.
The restaurant books private events in its Silo and Blueprint rooms, or a full buyout for up to 200 guests. That makes it a fit for birthdays, rehearsal dinners and business meetings alike.
The Pearl Brewhouse itself dates back further still. It opened in 1881 as the J.B. Behloradsky Brewery and grew into the largest brewery in Texas by 1916, surviving Prohibition before closing in 2001 and reopening as today's Pearl in 2002.
