Alamo Beer Company is a brewery with a beer hall and garden in Dignowity Hill, San Antonio. It sits right beside the Hays Street Bridge, a few blocks from the Alamodome. The name goes back to 1884, when the original Lone Star Brewing Company brewed a beer called Alamo in this city.
Prohibition ended that first Alamo Beer. The website says Eugene Simor found the dormant trademark in the 1990s and brought the beer back, with Alamo Golden Ale flowing in San Antonio by 2003. The company says it is not a direct continuation of the old brewery, but it carries the name forward.
The Beer Hall and Garden sit steps from the brewery and pour the full lineup. Rotating food trucks handle the food. The website calls it family-friendly, with board games inside and cornhole, giant Connect 4 and Jenga outside under the bridge.
The taproom and garden also host local artists, musicians, nonprofits and neighborhood groups. It is one of the most reviewed beer spots in San Antonio on this site.
