About Commensal Fermentation
From Commensal Fermentation's own website and its Google listing, read September 30, 2026.
Commensal Fermentation is a brewery and taproom on N Williams Ave in Portland. Its website says it is veteran and minority owned. The name is an old word for the people you bring to your table.
Michael Mathis formed the brewery with two longtime friends, Morgan and Piotr. The website says Michael has more than 10 years of professional brewing experience and formal brewing education from the American Brewers Guild.
The stated goal is to focus on beer without setting limits on what they make. The taproom sits in the same building as the brewery. It has 14 taps with the brewery's own beer and seltzer, plus curated natural wine, ciders and non-alcoholic drinks.
The taproom is family friendly, and dogs are welcome on the patio. A small food menu is made in house. Google also lists a wheelchair accessible entrance, parking lot and seating.
