Altar Society Brewing and Coffee Co. is a brewpub, coffee roaster and event space inside the former Masonic Temple on Pine Avenue in Downtown Long Beach. The temple was built in 1903, and the brewery says it is the oldest building in downtown. It spreads across three floors.
The brewery puts its focus on lagers and IPAs, and it adds specialty styles through the year. The bar also pours wine and cocktails like an IPA Paloma and a Mai Tai.
The restaurant serves comfort food inside the restored temple. Expect pizzas, wings, sliders like the Altar Single and Double, and Altar pickled eggs on house-made chips.
Mornings belong to the cafe. It roasts its own coffee and pours espresso drinks, drip and pour-overs, plus house drinks like the Smokestack Cappuccino. A breakfast menu runs alongside it.
