About Old Sugar Distillery
From Old Sugar Distillery's own website and its Google listing, read October 4, 2026.
Old Sugar Distillery is a Madison distillery founded in 2010 by University of Wisconsin graduate Nathan Greenawalt. The company moved to its current East Main Street location after Wisconsin law changed to allow distillery tasting rooms.
Old Sugar says most of its spirits are finished in American oak barrels made in Minnesota. The company also highlights direct fire distillation, which it says creates caramelization during the process and contributes to the final spirit.
Private events are held in The Rickhouse, with seating, catering space, music and bartending service available. Giant Jones Brewing is listed at 0 miles, while Vintage Brewing Co. Capitol East and Untitled Art are both 0.2 miles away.
