Hunter-Gatherer Brewery/Taproom is a brewpub in Columbia, set in the historic Curtiss-Wright Hangar near downtown. Its website says it is the oldest locally owned brewery in Columbia and has been family owned and operated since 1995. The Hangar location opened in January 2018.
Owner Kevin Varner brews every batch himself. The website says he learned the craft in Seattle at Hales Ales, one of the oldest microbreweries in the country. His love for English and American-style ales shows in the lineup.
The tap list runs from Lager 29, Golden Ale and Pale Ale to Hefeweizen, ESB and Hazy IPA. There are sours too, including barrel aged ones. Wine, spirits, local ciders and non-alcoholic beers are also poured.
The kitchen makes pizzas, salads, sandwiches and appetizers. The website says it has two semi private event spaces for rent. It is one of the most reviewed beer spots in Columbia on this site.
