About Blackfoot River Brewing Co
Blackfoot River Brewing Co is a microbrewery and taproom in Helena. It was founded in 1998 by three homebrewers: Brian Smith, Brad Simshaw and Greg Wermers.
Its website says the beers use traditional ingredients chosen for each style, with the base malt and yeast matched to the beer. Each week the brewery also pours two beers on a hand pumped beer engine. The site says cask beer is creamier, less carbonated and served slightly warmer than regular draught.
The taproom has two levels and a second floor deck, plus a parklet outside in summer months. Well behaved pets are allowed in the downstairs outdoor areas, and outside food is welcome. Free popcorn, wine, Montana made hard cider and non-alcoholic drinks are on offer too.
The brewery moved into a new building next to its original one in October 2008. It is one of the most reviewed beer spots in Helena on this site.
