About Shipyard Brewing Company
Shipyard Brewing Company is a family-owned brewery with a tasting room and brewery store in Portland's Old Port. It moved brewing to Portland in 1994, into the former Laughlin foundry on Casco Bay. The story starts at Federal Jack's in Kennebunkport, where Fred Forsley and Alan Pugsley served the first Shipyard Export Ale in 1992.
Export is still the flagship, a golden ale. Pumpkinhead Ale has been brewed since 1996, and there is now a non-alcoholic version too. Summer Ale, Finder New England IPA and Boatload Berry Wheat Ale fill out the roster.
The tasting room pours exclusive beers from the Discovery Series. You can order a flight, a single 10 oz pour or a pint with lunch from the small food menu. Growlers and packaged beer are sold to go.
Thursday is trivia night, free to play, with games at 5 and 6 PM. The private space holds parties of up to 300, with catering menus. Google also lists tours with tastings, house sodas and Shipyard gear.
