Breweries in Maine

Portland is the center of Maine beer. It holds about a fifth of the breweries, far more than any other city, with South Portland and Biddeford next. The rest are spread across nearly a hundred towns, from Bangor and Bar Harbor to Kittery and Brunswick.
Nearly every place listed is a brewery, and only a handful are beer stores. Where size is known, most are small microbreweries, and brewpubs make up about a quarter.
Bissell Brothers Brewing Company, Rising Tide Brewing Company and Shipyard Brewing Company are three of the most reviewed breweries in the state, all in Portland. Maine Beer Company in Freeport and Run of the Mill Public House & Brewery in Saco also draw plenty of reviews.
Planning a brewery trip in Maine
Portland makes the easiest base by a wide margin, since far more breweries cluster there than anywhere else. South Portland and Biddeford add a few more stops.
Bangor, Bar Harbor and Kittery each have a small group of their own. Beyond them the breweries sit in many separate towns, so plan each stop before you drive.
