New Orleans carries the Louisiana beer map. About a third of the state's breweries and beer spots sit in the city. Baton Rouge and Shreveport come next, and the three together hold close to half.
Most places listed are breweries, and where size is known, nearly all are small microbreweries. Beer stores make up about a sixth of the list. There is even a sake brewery.
New Orleans Lager & Ale (NOLA) Brewing runs a pizza kitchen in the Irish Channel and books free live music shows open to all ages. Urban South Brewery, also on Tchoupitoulas Street, goes by the motto "We take laid back seriously." In Baton Rouge, Rally Cap Brewing Company is a sports-themed taproom with a pizza kitchen in the same room.

Planning a brewery trip in Louisiana
New Orleans makes the easiest base, since far more breweries cluster there than anywhere else. The Courtyard Brewery on Camp Street has three more breweries close by, which makes for an easy walk.
