Hop State Brewing is a Tampa brewery whose taproom grew out of a homebrew hobby that began in Seminole Heights. The website calls its seltzer bar Tampa's first custom craft seltzer bar. Head brewer and co-owner Ed Valenti brings a culinary background to every recipe.
The founders started in 2014 and brewed their first all-grain batch in a garage in 2015, days after Christmas. They moved to all-steel equipment in 2017 and gained two partners in 2022 to find a space. Ed Valenti, Gary "Buddy" Cernan and Ed Fitzpatrick now own the brewery together.
The beer list covers hazy, double and West Coast IPAs, Berliner weisse and sours made with real fruit and stouts from oatmeal to pastry. Barrel-aged beers are a passion, with and without adjuncts. At the seltzer bar, you pick a base or dry hopped seltzer and add flavor pumps to taste.
The space mixes high ceilings and exposed steel with reclaimed barn wood and cues from old Kentucky bourbon distilleries. The calendar brings live music, food trucks and community events, and the website says families and pets are always welcome.
