Second Dawn Brewing Co. is a North Aurora brewery in a former auto body repair shop, one block from the Stanley Marketplace. Ross and Amy Koenigs opened it in February 2023. The name plays on Aurora, Latin for dawn, and on the second dawn that comes when the workday ends.
Ross trained in the UC Davis Master Brewers Program and spent more than a decade at New Belgium Brewing Company. There he developed recipes for the VooDoo Ranger series, the Hemperor and Oak Spire. His lineup here runs from Tijuana Champion, a Mexican lager, to House Party, a hazy IPA, and a bourbon barrel-aged stout.
The menu is built to be inclusive, with beer, seltzer and dry drinks. Cub Crawl, a West Coast pilsner, and Buttery Bear, a butterscotch cream soda, support the Denver Zoo. Mornings bring Mishap Coffee, breakfast burritos and scones, and later come pizza, flatbreads, dips and pretzels.
The patio is dog friendly. The Aurora Road Runners meet here on Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings, and Trivia at the Dawn runs most Wednesdays. Third Fridays bring all-ages community game nights.
