California Wild Ales is an independent San Diego brewery with two taprooms, one in Ocean Beach and one here in Midway / Point Loma. This location, on Sherman Street, is the barrelhouse: two floors looking down on the oak foeders, twenty taps, an arcade, a big movie screen and a pile of Lego.
The brewery built its name on wild fermentation and barrel-aged sours, and that focus still shapes how it brews. Its lineup has grown well past sours, and now covers West Coast and hazy IPAs, clean lagers, browns, stouts and rotating seasonal beers alongside the barrel-aged saisons.
Point Loma is where the barrel program lives. Its sours and saisons ferment slowly here, often resting in oak, and get blended over time before they reach a glass.
Walk-ins are welcome and so are dogs, with no reservations needed. Private bookings can take over the whole upstairs for a group event. Beer travels too, since crowlers are available to go alongside cans like its Bike Lane Lager.
