Straight to Ale is a brewery, distillery and gastropub at Campus 805 in Huntsville. Its home is the reclaimed former Stone Middle School, where it moved in 2016. The taproom pours more than 40 taps of its own beer and cider.
A group of local home brewers founded Straight to Ale in 2009. The website says it was named RateBeer's best brewer in Alabama in 2019. Huntsville's mayor then proclaimed February 14th Straight to Ale Day.
Ale's Kitchen serves scratch-made comfort food, from burgers, wings and tacos to fish and chips and brisket grilled cheese. Shelta Cavern Spirits is the in-house distillery, and Campus Grounds Coffee pours coffee on site. There is a patio, a biergarten, a speakeasy and a lounge called Lipz.
A free brewery tour runs every Saturday, covering the old school and some Huntsville Prohibition history. More people have reviewed Straight to Ale on Google than any other brewery, taproom or beer shop in Huntsville on this site.

Does Straight to Ale take reservations?
No. Seating is limited, so it does not take reservations. Groups larger than 14 should ask for a manager when they arrive to see if there is room.
Is there a brewery tour?
Yes. A free tour runs every Saturday at 3pm and takes close to an hour. Guests of legal age get two free beer samples, and you check in at the merchandise area between 2:30 and 2:45.
Can I rent a space for an event?
Yes. You can rent the Biergarten, the Speakeasy or Lipz Lounge. Rentals must be booked at least two weeks ahead.

Come on a Saturday afternoon if you want the free tour, and check in a little before 3pm. The speakeasy and Lipz Lounge keep their own evening hours. Sunday closing time is earlier than the rest of the week.
