Breweries in Alabama

Alabama's beer map has two centers of nearly equal weight. Birmingham and Huntsville each hold a little under a fifth of the places listed. Add Mobile, and about two fifths of them sit in those three cities.
The rest are spread across dozens of towns, including Jasper, Guntersville, Dothan, Opelika and Montgomery. Roughly four in five places listed are breweries, and the rest are beer stores. Where size is known, most are small microbreweries, with a handful of brewpubs.
Huntsville offers three good examples. Straight to Ale runs a brewery, distillery and gastropub inside the former Stone Middle School, and Yellowhammer Brewing draws on Belgian and German brewing with a Southern twist. Green Bus Brewing, on Eustis Avenue in downtown Huntsville, opens early every day of the week.
Planning a brewery trip in Alabama
Birmingham and Huntsville make the easiest bases, since the most breweries cluster in those two cities. In Birmingham, Avondale Brewing Company, Good People Brewing Company and Back Forty Beer Company Birmingham are among the most reviewed in the state.
