About South Shore Brewery
South Shore Brewery is the pilot brewery and main office of a two-brewery company on the southern shore of Lake Superior. This is the Ashland location. The production brewery and taphouse is in Washburn.
Six core beers are brewed year-round and packaged in 12 ounce cans. They include Nut Brown Ale, the beer that started it all, and Rhoades' Scholar Stout. Northern Lights is a cream ale brewed with herbs.
Cloud Machine Hazy IPA and Apostle Punch Juicy Pale Ale cover the hazy side. Island Hopper IPA is made with a single hop, Azacca, for notes of mango and papaya. The brewery says its Nut Brown Ale won a silver medal at the 2002 World Beer Cup.
Specialty and seasonal beers join the core line-up, including Cheq Pils, made with Wisconsin grown malt and hops. The entrance and the parking lot are both wheelchair accessible. The Washburn taphouse is 5.8 miles away, so the two are easy to visit in one trip.
