About Otherlands Beer
Otherlands Beer is a small, family-owned brewery and cafe in the Sunnyland neighborhood of Bellingham. Founders Karolina Lobrow and Ben Howe first pictured a cottage in the woods called Chickens As Friends, brewing one beer and serving food only from their garden. They decided a 50-seat cafe was a bit more reasonable.
The beer leans on traditional and old-world techniques. Lagers are decoction mashed in a direct fired kettle, naturally carbonated and cold conditioned in horizontal lagering tanks. Farmhouse ales use an evolving house yeast culture and referment at length in the keg and bottle.
The draft list changes with the seasons and is heavy on lagers, with a saison and an IPA always represented. Some beers pour from a gravity cask. The kitchen serves European inspired street foods and old family dishes, with a weekend brunch called Second Breakfast.
All ages are welcome. Well behaved dogs can join you on the patio, and wine, cider and non-alcoholic drinks are on hand for anyone skipping beer.
