About Extra Billys Smokehouse and Brewery
Extra Billys Smokehouse and Brewery is a brewpub and barbecue restaurant on Alverser Drive in Midlothian. Its website says the Harr family opened it over 30 years ago as the first full-service BBQ restaurant in Richmond. It also calls it the second oldest brewery in RVA.
Hickory smoke is the main event. Every day the kitchen starts a hickory wood fire in a rotating pit and smokes pork, brisket, chicken, ribs, wings and turkey low and slow. Sauces are made in house, and the sides come in small batches.
The brewhouse has made 7-barrel batches since 2000. It aims to pour five to seven mainstays and adds seasonal beers through the year. The website says Citrawation won a Virginia Cup gold medal, and My Only Weiss and Sin Bin won silver.
