About Buggs Island Brewing Company
Buggs Island Brewing Company is a brewery and brewpub on 2nd Street in Clarksville, Virginia. It opened in 2017, and the brewery says it is the first brewery in Mecklenburg County.
Six flagship beers anchor the taproom. Kerr Lake Kolsch is the most popular, a crisp German-style beer with a light fruit aroma. Mainsail Amber Ale is a caramel-forward American amber, and the lineup also includes Gypsy Beach Pale Ale, Without a Paddle IPA, Pontoon Sunset Porter and Lifejacket Required IPA.
The kitchen and taproom run together, so you can eat as well as drink. Two friends, Michael Elliott and Rich Castle, formed the company in 2016 after years of home brewing. The brewery says it won the 2025 Virginia Living Magazine award for Virginia's best brewery. Clarksville sits on Buggs Island Lake.
