Autonomous Society is a brewpub in the Cedars neighborhood, just south of downtown Dallas, set in a building that dates to 1940. It showcases local, independent craft brewers alongside its own beer, Deanitude Crafted Beer.
The brewpub grew out of founder Dean Weaver's home brewing hobby, which started in 1993. Weaver served in the US Army and spent more than two years in Germany in the late 1980s, where he came to enjoy the country's beer.
He later earned his BJCP and Cicerone certifications, and led home brewing study groups for the North Texas Home Brewers Association. With fellow NTHBA member Wayne Yandell, he formed the Big Rig Brew Crew to brew on a larger scale and split the batches among the group.
Inside, the taproom has a rustic, relaxed feel, with sports on the television for game days. Autonomous Society also keeps its own kitchen, running on hours separate from the bar.
