About Calfkiller Brewing Company

Calfkiller Brewing Company is a brewery on Blue Springs Road in Sparta, Tennessee. Two brothers, Don and Dave Sergio, started it. They first brewed Calfkiller beer in 2004 in a converted horse shed in Don's backyard.

The brothers built the current brewery building themselves between 2006 and 2010. They worked nights and weekends and used recycled materials. Along the way they collected old dairy and brewing vessels.

The beer list mixes year-round staples with seasonal beers. The Grassroots Ale is along the lines of a pale ale, fermented with the house yeast. The Smokey Treat uses peat smoked barley, and the Trail Ale is brewed with oats, apples, coconut and almonds.

You can drink pints and half pints in the beer garden, or fill a growler to go. The brewery does not sell food, but you are welcome to bring your own. Tours run on Saturdays by appointment.
