Great Lakes Brewing Company is the original brewpub of Great Lakes, on Market Avenue in Cleveland's Ohio City neighborhood. Brothers Patrick and Daniel Conway opened it in 1988. The company calls itself Ohio's original craft brewery.
Christmas Ale debuted here in 1992, and the website calls it a beloved seasonal. It also says Dortmunder Gold Lager won the company its first gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival in 1990. Edmund Fitzgerald Porter and Hazecraft IPA are also on the list.
The kitchen cooks with the beer. The website says from-scratch, beer-infused sauces and dressings have long been a signature here, including an Edmund Fitzgerald Porter BBQ sauce.
