About Hana Makgeolli Brewery & Tasting Room

Hana Makgeolli Brewery & Tasting Room is a Korean rice wine brewery on Dupont Street in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. It makes makgeolli, an unfiltered Korean rice wine, and other sool, the Korean word for alcohol. Its website says the brewery launched in 2020 and set out to be the first domestic producer of traditional Korean rice wine in the US.

The brewery says it uses only organic rice from a family farm in California. It says it adds no additives of any kind. The website describes deep, earthy grain notes, natural lactic acidity and tropical fruit.

The tasting room pours sool as a flight, by the liter or in original cocktails. A menu of Korean drinking snacks sits alongside the drinks. The brewers also lead tours that end with a guided tasting, and the room hosts private events.
