About Speciation Artisan Ales & Native Species Winery

Speciation Artisan Ales & Native Species Winery is a brewery and winery in a 100+ year old auto garage off Wealthy Street SE in Grand Rapids. You find it in a U shaped alley behind the Studio Z Textiles building. The name means the formation of a new species, and the website describes an evolutionary approach to drinks.

The lineup runs from a crispy clean lager and pale ale to oak aged sours and saisons. Since 2021 the taproom has always kept a lager, a pale ale and a stout on tap. There are native fermented wines and ciders, conventional wines, seltzer and house-made N/A drinks too.

Mitch and Whitney Ermatinger founded the family-owned company in 2016. Jane and Christian Sablich carry it on today. The taproom sits next to the production area where everything is blended and packaged.

There is no kitchen, so bring your own food, or grab a snack from the bodega. The taproom is family friendly, dogs are welcome on the patio, and the whole space is handicap accessible.
