About Barreled Souls Brewing
Barreled Souls Brewing is a brewery and tasting room on Portland Road in Saco. Its website says all of the beer it makes goes through primary fermentation in oak barrels. That is the thing that sets this place apart.
The brewery runs a fifty gallon system. Its fermentation is based on the Burton Union system, a method developed in England in the 1800s. The website says the oak gives every beer a subtle house character.
The tasting room is described as large and comfortable, with 20 draft varieties and a focus on barrel aging. Co-owners Matt and Chris set out to make a large variety of beers. The beer archive on the site lists barleywine, wheatwine, IPA, sour ale, gose, stout and porter.
The website says Chris moved back to Maine in March 2014 to open the brewery. Barreled Souls is one of the most reviewed beer spots in Saco on this site.
