Bluejacket is a three-story brewery, restaurant and bar at Tingey and 4th Street SE in Navy Yard, Washington, DC. It sits in a building from 1919 known as the boilermaker shops. The building was part of the navy yard's ship and munitions complex, and it is one of the few true industrial buildings left in the city.
The bar pours a rotating list of twenty Bluejacket beers and five cask ales, and most are only available on site. The brewery makes traditional lagers, hop-forward beers, classic British-style ales, barrel-aged rarities and fruited sours. You can take fresh cans and bottles home too.
You eat in view of the brewing system that makes the beer. The kitchen uses local, seasonal ingredients, with dinner, weekend brunch and a kids menu. Whiskeys, wines and cocktails round out the bar.
The name is a navy term for an enlisted sailor, a nod to the building's past. Bluejacket opened in 2012 as a Neighborhood Restaurant Group concept. More people have reviewed Bluejacket on Google than any other brewery, taproom or beer shop in Washington on this site.
