About Back Forty Beer Company

Back Forty Beer Company is a brewery on North 6th Street in Gadsden, Alabama. Its website says the brewery sits in a 27,000 square foot warehouse built in the 1940s. The first production batch there was brewed in January 2012.

The name comes from an old farming term for the 40 acres farthest from the barn. The website says those acres are overlooked but fertile, and it sees Alabama's craft beer scene the same way.

The lineup includes Truck Stop Honey Brown Ale, Naked Pig Pale Ale and Devil's Staircase IPA. Its website says Truck Stop Honey won a silver medal at the Great American Beer Festival in 2010.

You can drink in the taproom or in the large outdoor garden, and the website says you can do a little train watching. It also mentions the occasional live band. More people have reviewed Back Forty on Google than any other brewery, taproom or beer shop in Gadsden on this site.
