About Horny Toad Brewing Company

Horny Toad Brewing Company is a brewery and taproom on Edward St in Rowena, in the Concho Valley of West Texas. The brewery says it was the first in the world to brew with mesquite beans. Its beer comes off a seven-barrel system built mostly from re-purposed dairy equipment.

The system is 100% manual, with no automation at all. The taproom tries to keep at least 8 beers on tap at all times.

The flagship is Angelo Amber. It is malty and medium-bodied, with a slight floral hop finish. Kickapoo IPA leans on Columbus, Cascade and Centennial hops for a citrusy bite, and Thirsty Gringo is a clean Mexican-style lager.

Seasonal beers come and go through the year. Live music plays in the taproom every first Saturday of the month. The entrance and the parking lot are both wheelchair accessible.

Before you visit Horny Toad

The brewery invites visitors on the first Saturday of the month. Live music is part of that day, so it is a good time to settle in with a pint.

Check hornytoadbrewery.com before you go, because the beer list and the seasonals change. Mesquite Bean Brown Ale is the one to ask about, since the brewery says it was first to brew with those beans.

Not near Rowena? Several San Angelo spots pour the beer, including Twisted Root Burgers and Zero One Ale House. That makes it easy to try a pint before you make the trip.
