Highland Brewing Company is a brewery on Old Charlotte Highway in Asheville. Its website calls it Asheville's original craft brewery and says it was founded in 1994. The campus covers 40 acres on a hilltop in East Asheville.
The founder was Oscar Wong, who started out brewing on refurbished dairy equipment in the basement of Barley's Taproom. Early beers include Gaelic Amber Ale, Oatmeal Porter and Cold Mountain Winter Ale. Today the lineup also has Daycation IPA, Highland Haze IPA, AVL IPA and Highland Pilsner.
The grounds are built for staying a while. There are five sand volleyball courts and an 18-hole disc golf course. The taproom has indoor and outdoor space, and the website lists daily food trucks and live music four nights a week.
The website says families are welcome, with a supervised natural playground and open lawn space. Private event venues include a rooftop, a Barrel Room and reservable Silo Cabanas.
