About Allerton Brewing Company
Allerton Brewing Company is a brewery and taproom in a historic downtown building in Independence. The brewery says it is the oldest brewery in Buchanan County. The owners signed the lease in December 2019 and did almost all of the renovation themselves.
Four flagships are always the starting point. Allerton Ale is a light Belgian patersbier, Allerton Ultra is a cream ale brewed with Belgian yeast, Marshall D's is a hefeweizen, and Wapsi Daisy is an American IPA. Seasonal, rotating, IPA, porter and stout beers fill out the list.
The taproom keeps its original hardwood floors, an exposed brick wall, a barn-tin ceiling and Edison lighting. The brick was found under crumbling plaster during the renovation. The deck overlooks the historic Independence Mill on the Wapsipinicon River.
Many beer names nod to local history. Seeland Porter honors Christian Seeland, an early brewery owner in Independence, and Wengert Burton Ale is named after one of the old Independence breweries. The entrance and the parking lot are both wheelchair accessible.
