Honolulu holds about a quarter of Hawaii's breweries, more than any other town. The rest are spread thinly, with small groups in Kihei, Kailua, Hilo and Waimea.
Most places listed are breweries, and where size is known they split evenly between microbreweries and brewpubs. A few beer halls and beer stores, a cider bar and a sake brewery round out the list.
In Honolulu, Kona Brewing Co. runs its only Oahu pub in Hawaii Kai, and Hana Koa Brewing Co. releases a new beer every Friday. Honolulu Beerworks shares a building with Lion Coffee in Kalihi. Away from Honolulu, Maui Brewing Co. in Kihei and Big Island Brewhaus in Waimea are two of the most reviewed breweries in the state.
Planning a brewery trip in Hawaii
Honolulu makes the easiest base, because the most breweries cluster there. Kailua, Kihei and Hilo each have a small group of their own. Outside Honolulu the breweries are spread across many towns, so plan each stop before you set out.
Hawaii has no statewide liquor agency, and each county runs its own liquor commission. Every brewery page on brewery.fyi has hours, a map and what to know before you go. Check it on the day, since taproom hours can change.
