About Golden City Brewery

Golden City Brewery is a brewery and taproom in Golden, a few blocks from the Colorado School of Mines. Its website says it has pioneered craft beer since 1993 and calls it Golden's original microbrewery. The site also describes it as the second largest brewery in Golden.

Two geologists, Charlie and Janine Sturdavant, founded it in 1993. They started brewing German-style ales in the old machine shop behind their home. The carriage house is now the tasting room, and the backyard is the beer garden.

The Legendary Red Ale was the first beer they offered. The taps also list Clear Creek Kolsch, Evolution IPA, Lookout Stout and Pink Guava Bomber Sour. There is wine, hard cider, hard seltzer, a gluten-free blonde and non-alcoholic options such as a house root beer.

Tamara's Big Fat Fryer is the permanent food truck, serving pub fare like bratwurst, wings and soft pretzels. Leashed, well behaved pets are welcome outside in the beer garden. The site says the brewery is majority woman owned.
