About Shanty Shack Brewing

Shanty Shack Brewing is a nano-brewery and tasting room in Santa Cruz's Harvey West neighborhood. Its website describes a laidback space with an outdoor patio that is kid and pet friendly. Google calls it a casual tasting room with patio seats.

The tap list rotates and runs to small batches. The website lists hazy IPA, barrel-aged sours, fruited kettle sours, pilsners, stouts, gruits and Belgian styles. Harvey, a West Coast IPA, is named as its flagship.

Co-owners Brandon Padilla and Nathan Van Zandt started out as home brew partners. Before they had a taproom, they delivered beer to neighbors as a Community Supported Brewery. The website says Shanty Shack officially opened in December 2016.

Food comes from rotating food trucks and pop up chefs. Live music is part of the draw as well. It is one of the most reviewed beer spots in Santa Cruz on this site.
